REPORTER: We’re here today with the cast
of “Fox & Rat” Virtual Series. Everyone has been invited
back to the studio to answer some follow-up questions sent in by readers
of the series.
The Reporter points off to his left to show us
who all is here today: Fox Mulder, Alex Krycek, Walter Skinner, Dana
Scully, John Doggett, Knowle Rohrer, Monica Reyes, Brad Follmer, and
Marita Covarrubias.
REPORTER: As you can see not everyone was able
to make it to the studio today so we’ll make due with who we
have. First off, can anyone tell me why Comer, Charles Scully and
Shannon McMahon aren’t here?
KNOWLE: Charles actually asked me to apologize
that he and Shannon weren’t able to make their interview a month
ago. They were filming some pretty intense scenes from the upcoming
FRVS movie.
REPORTER: Movie?
SCULLY: Knowle, you weren’t supposed to
announce that. Cassie and Kristi were going to do that next week.
REPORTER: So there’s going to be another
FRVS movie sometime soon?
KNOWLE: I guess I spilled the beans on that one.
Yes, we’re actually working on the movie first before season
10. It’s short notice, but the movie is coming before season
10 with a reason. I’ll let Cassie and Kristi elaborate on that
next week in their interview.
REPORTER: And Comer?
MONICA: He slipped on some ice and twisted his
ankle. He’s at home resting right now.
REPORTER: Ice?
DOGGETT: Monica, can’t elaborate on that.
REPORTER: Is it another winter Olympics flashback
scene as we saw way back in season 4?
Doggett laughs a hearty laugh and shakes his
head.
DOGGETT: That’d be fun, wouldn’t
it?
MONICA: You’d be in that tight speed skating
one-piece, wouldn’t you?
DOGGETT: Nah, hockey gear.
KRYCEK: I’m a professional hockey player.
I was trained in Sweden. I can speak Swedish you know. (he clears
his throat) Jag har forstoppning.
Knowle bursts out laughing.
KRYCEK: What? Why are you laughing?
KNOWLE: No reason.
REPORTER: Ok the bantering has gone on enough,
no need to lose track of the purpose of this interview. (beat) Mulder
this first question comes from Holly in Arkansas… What storylines
or characterizations did you help the writers develop on FRVS?
MULDER: Well there are a few that I brought up
which were used. My favorite being back in season 7 when Diana Fowley
was brought onto the show. I wanted her to be there as Mulder’s
love interest and the writers did just that. I was surprised to see
what the writers decided to do with her character later on in the
season when I found out she backstabbed me. I suggested to Cassie
and Kristi that Mulder actually had knowledge of her betrayal and
they went with that one too. That was a storyline that I helped develop.
My favorite bit of characterization came last season (season 9) when
Samantha was about to be attacked by Scott Williams and I killed him
with my bare hands. I like exploring the darker side of my character
and I really hope that they look into that aspect of my character
again in the upcoming season.
KRYCEK: You were the one responsible for Diana
being back? Humph!
Krycek swivels around in his chair so that his
back is to Mulder. Mulder rolls his eyes.
REPORTER: So Mulder, you’re saying that
you hope that the readers get to see a darker side of Mulder or do
you mean a more serious side of him?
MULDER: Both. I want to see Mulder deal with
the fact that he killed a man with his bare hands. Actually I think
something like that would bring out a more serious side of him. But
then again Mulder is surrounded by his friends again, except for Krycek,
and I think they’ve been able to keep his mind off of things
like that. I would also like to see my friends let me take care of
myself more. Sometimes I feel like I am mothered more than I should
be.
KNOWLE: I think that would be good for you.
SCULLY: Me too.
REPORTER: Krycek, this one is from Kate in Portland,
Oregon… Are you really the egotistical jerk that you portrayed
yourself to be in these hiatus interviews?
KRYCEK: Kate, that’s a good question. The
answer is quite simple. No. I’m not really such a jerk once
you get to know me. I mean, sometimes I can be a bit rude or self-centered
but I think that’s a trait of everyone in the world. We don’t
view the world around us from the perspectives of others, we view
the world from our perspective, and in our perspective we are the
center of the world. I do admit that in these interviews I’ve
been a bit of a drama queen and I apologize to anyone affected by
my behaviour for that. I think sometimes I behave the way I do out
of my insecurities as an individual. Believe it or not but I don’t
have the highest self-esteem.
MARITA: That’s true. It’s why he’s
so needy when it comes to me and his love for me.
KRYCEK: It is.
KNOWLE: Do you think if you two weren’t
a couple that you’d be able to find security in yourself? It
seems to me that you’re too dependent on Marita for your happiness.
Krycek cautiously eyes Marita as if he fears
answering Knowle’s question.
KRYCEK: I can’t answer that question because
in answering the question with the truth my physical well-being may
be put at risk.
MARITA: Good answer, Sasha.
KRYCEK: Thanks Marita.
Krycek gets up out of his seat and walks across
the stage and kisses Marita on the cheek.
REPORTER: Brad, this question is my own since
I’m referencing a short FRVS drabble posted in today’s
FRVS website update, “Our
Last Dance”. It’s a short story of a storyline that
Cassie and Kristi decided not to follow through with in which you
and Monica got married in season 8. We all know that this did not
happen, but this story gives us an idea of what would have happened.
Monica would have married you while being in love with Knowle. In
retrospect, do you think not using that plot was a good or bad idea?
BRAD: I’m familiar with this idea as it
was tossed around back in 2005 when they were working on writing the
episodes of season 8. I am disappointed that they didn’t go
down that path with Monica and I and I don’t say that because
I wish she and I had been married. I think working with the Brad-Monica-Knowle
love triangle with her being married to me would have been a bit more
interesting as she would have had to withhold her feelings for Knowle
even more in the seasons after the marriage. I know that John and
Dana get a lot of the relationship angst in FRVS, but I think if Mon’
and I had been married we could have carried a bit of that too. I
would have enjoyed that. But what happened happened and I think with
what they did they did well too. It was fun seeing Monica so unsure
about who she loves me or Knowle.
MONICA: And now Robert Comer has been thrown
into the mix. It sucks that they killed you off, a love square between
myself, you, Knowle and Comer would have been awesome.
SCULLY: You’re just saying that because
you want all the good lookin’ guys pining for you.
DOGGETT: I’m good lookin’.
SCULLY: I know.
DOGGETT: You didn’t mention me.
SCULLY: I didn’t think you wanted me to
throw your name into a conversation about which men Monica finds attractive.
You always say you view her as a sister-type.
REPORTER: What about you, Monica, do you think
dropping that storyline was a good idea?
MONICA: Actually, I do. If I had married Brad
then that would have been one more couple on the series to deal with
angsty stuff. Brad and I had our angst, but it would have been more
so if we had been married. Leave that stuff to John and Dana, they’re
good at it, plus I think the fans really enjoy the angst John and
Dana bring to the series. I also think the fans really wanted to see
Brad and I work things out. Which would have been nice, but I think
if you really look at my relationship with both men, not being tied
down to Brad was for the best. I love Brad very much, but Knowle is
the better choice for me. I hope that Kristi doesn’t kill me
off before I can escape the aliens. I hope I get to see Knowle again.
REPORTER: Speaking of John and Dana… Dana
this question is for you from Megan in London, England… Marita
said in her hiatus interview that she thinks your relationship with
John would “fall apart quicker than a melting iceberg”
if your relationship didn’t have complications. Do you agree
or disagree with her sentiment?
Scully’s eyes go wide, obviously this is
something she hadn’t thought about.
SCULLY: Well, Megan, that’s a tough one
for me to answer because I feel that John and I have been through
so many tough times and survived that without those moments we wouldn’t
be where we are now in our relationship. I believe that everything
that happens happens for a reason and that all the bad things that
have happened to John and I brought us closer together. We’ve
stripped down to our bare souls to each other, seen each other at
our emotionally worst. I believe that we are each other’s soulmate
and if life had been peachy and sweet to us before we met that our
relationship would still be very strong as it is today. I can’t
imagine life without him.
John reaches over and takes Dana’s hand
in his and gives her a little squeeze.
DOGGETT: (whispers to Dana) Semper fi…
SCULLY: I love you too, Johnny.
REPORTER: To keep this on topic I’ll go
ahead and ask John a question… this is from Mark in Houston,
Texas… In yours and Dana’s interview you avoided answering
the question about if and when Dana passes, do you think you’ll
find love again? And can you elaborate more now than in your previous
interview about how Dana’s cancer affects you and her in the
upcoming season?
DOGGETT: I just want to explain really quick
that I avoided answering that question before because it’s very
hard for me to think about how Dana may not be around anymore when
death takes her. Like Dana I can’t imagine life without her.
To answer your question… (he takes a deep breath)… I don’t
know. I know Dana would want me to find love again, but… I just
can’t imagine loving someone else as much as I love her.
John looks over at Dana and she gives him an
assuring smile and holds his hand, her eyes well with tears and she
mouths off “I love you”. John directs his attention back
to the Reporter.
DOGGETT: No. I don’t think that I’ll
ever love again after she’s gone.
He wipes a tear from his face with the back of
his hand.
REPORTER: And what can you tell us about her
cancer and your relationship in the upcoming season?
DOGGETT: Actually I’ve been asked not to
talk about that subject as the writers wish to keep stuff like that
top secret until season 10 begins. I wish I could get into some thoughts
that I have on the subject, but I can’t.
REPORTER: Just a quick question for anyone…
do you know when the season 10 premiere will be? Knowle mentioned
a second movie will air before season 10, I’m just wondering.
SKINNER: We haven’t been informed of the
air date for season 10, but I do know that they want it to happen
before summer this year. I think that they are still planning on airing
the second movie on March 23rd. If not then probably by March 30th.
I think it all depends on when the final cut is ready to go.
REPORTER: Is there anything you can tell us about
the movie?
SKINNER: It will be everything readers need to
know before the premiere of season 10. It will link season 9 with
season 10 without leaving any lingering questions.
KRYCEK: There’s a flying Delorean in the
movie.
Mulder whacks Krycek on the shoulder.
MULDER: Shut up! You’re not supposed to
talk about the movie!
KRYCEK: So! Consider that payback!
MULDER: For what?
KRYCEK: How you got Diana on the show!
SKINNER: All I can say is that I can’t
wait to film the final scene of the movie, it’s gonna be so
cool.
REPORTER: Now you’ve got me anxious for
this second movie. Is it March 23rd yet?
Everyone laughs.
REPORTER: Ok Knowle, this one comes from KnowleIsHot
in New York… In the season 9 episode “All Is Calm, All
Is Bright”, there was a scene in which Dana gave you Doggett’s
Purple Heart as a Christmas gift, and you gave it back to her in a
very tender and loving scene between you and her. You laid in bed
with her and held her in your arms to comfort her. She told you that
she loves you. This scene got me all excited for a possible romantic
relationship between you and Dana, but it never happened. Do you think
if Doggett had actually been killed that the writers would have explored
a romance between you and Dana?
Knowle rubs the back of his neck and sits up
a little straighter.
KNOWLE: I don’t have any doubts that Cassie
considered the idea of hooking me up with Dana, even with John alive
and us unknowing to that fact. If they would have explored a romance
between Dana and I, I don’t think that it would have been a
lasting relationship. I’m head over heels for Monica and though
at the time of “All Is Calm, All Is Bright” we didn’t
know Monica’s fate, I’m a man of loyalty, I couldn’t
sincerely betray my heart and feelings for Monica by being in love
with another woman. Can I see myself falling into a relationship with
her back then? It’s possible, especially considering the circumstances
of the world, but… even then… and I think Dana will agree
with this… she and I have this connection with each other that
is more like that of a sibling relationship rather than a romantic
one. That’s how our interaction was ultimately played out and
I think it will continue on that path now that John’s around
and she’s dying. There’s no way in Hell that I’ll
try to step on toes and try to be with her now. If they had explored
that scenario I do think it would have been interesting, but I also
think it would have detracted from telling the story of survival and
alien colonization. (beat) I hope I didn’t just burst your bubble.
SCULLY: I would have dove head first into a relationship
with you at that time. It would have been my way of dealing with grief
and not being with John ever again. You would have been a rebound.
If he were really dead I can imagine I’d pursue you since you
and John are pretty similar.
MARITA: But I want to be with Knowle!
KRYCEK: Marita!
MARITA: I do! I had him back in season 7 when
he used ME to get information about Dana and Monica!
REPORTER: Before things get crazy in here…
Marita, this question is from Dorothy in Kansas. (the Reporter looks
directly at you) Original, Dorothy, really. *ahem* The question…
whose idea was it to make your personality so unpredictable? Sweet,
loving, bitchy, crazy, etcetera?
MARITA: Cassie. She was the first one to make
me a bit flippy. I think she was basing me loosely on a girl she knew
from high school. Kristi then found a way to make it all make sense
when it was revealed that the Smoking Man had gone into my brain and
messed things up a bit.
KRYCEK: I hate him.
MARITA: Me too.
REPORTER: Krycek… Domitila from You Should
Know Where wants to ask…What country is Lisbon located in?
KRYCEK: This is one of those questions meant
to make me want to act like an idiot, isn’t it?
REPORTER: Maybe. I don’t know. I just ask
the questions I was given.
KRYCEK: Portugal.
KNOWLE: Are you enjoying that geography class
I enrolled you in?
KRYCEK: Yes, actually I am. I had no idea that
Vienna wasn’t in Australia. It’s in Austria.
Krycek winks at you, the reader.
REPORTER: Skinner, you’ve been awfully
quiet today.
SKINNER: Just waiting for my question.
REPORTER: Then you’ve got it! Regina from
Saskatoon, Canada asks…
KRYCEK: Don’t they pronounce Regina like
it rhymes with vagina in Canada?
SCULLY: I heard that once too. Is it true?
KRYCEK: I have no idea. It makes me want to write
a rap song called “Regina’s Vagina”.
SKINNER: Shut up, Alex. Reporter, what is the
question from Regina?
REPORTER: Skinner, you’re my favorite character
of FRVS and it was great to see you finally get your own episode last
season, “Demons”, is there any chance that in season 10
we’ll get to see more of your serious, military side? “Demons”
is my favorite episode of the series. I also want to add that she
wants you to know that she really, really, really wants you and Scully
to hook up again.
SKINNER: Unfortunately I don’t think Scully
and I will be hooking up, but I’ll make mention of that when
I see Kristi, she’s not so stuck on Doggett and Scully staying
together like Cassie is. Maybe they can battle that one out and who
knows, maybe you’ll get what you want. Um… to answer your
question I know that you will be seeing more military Skinner in season
10. Season 9 of the series was about surviving the initial colonization
attacks now it’s time to figure out how to kick their asses
off the planet and win the war against them. “Demons”
is one of my favorite episodes of the series as well. It was great
to go and explore my time in Vietnam, very dark time of my life. It’s
too bad there aren’t the FRVS Awards otherwise I’m positive
“Demons” would have been nominated for best episode of
season 9. Maybe I should talk to Cassie and Kristi about doing FRVS
Awards…
REPORTER: We’re almost out of time here
so I have one last question to ask, this one is for Monica…
from Derek in Minnesota… Your Grandmother gave you an artifact
with strange writings on it back before the aliens first attacked,
what do you think is so important about it?
MONICA: My Grandmama is a wise old woman so I’m
sure there is a point to the artifact that she gave me. What that
point is, I have no clue. I’m thinking that maybe the writings
on it are from the language of the aliens and that if we can figure
out what is written on the artifacts then we can figure out how to
defeat them and take back our planet, but that’s just a theory.
I think John Montgomery has an artifact similar to mine as well so
he would probably be the one to ask about this as he knows more about
it’s origins than I do. The artifact heals, it provides light,
it protected me from aliens. I’m sure whatever its purpose is,
it is far beyond what we can imagine right now.
REPORTER: So many things we could continue to
discuss but unfortunately we are out of time. I want to take this
moment to thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules
to come in and do these hiatus interviews with me. Your thoughts about
the series, your characters, and relationships have been insightful.
I hope that your fans have enjoyed your comments as much as I have.
Krycek stands up and walks over to the Reporter.
KRYCEK: Mr. Reporter. I want to take this moment
to apologize to you, the readers and to Knowle for being such a weenie
old punk these past couple months. I let my ego get a hold of me and
when that happens I’m not very considerate. I’m sorry.
REPORTER: Apology accepted.
KNOWLE: Likewise.
Everyone else nods their heads in agreement.
Krycek grins the biggest dang grin you’ve ever seen on him.
SCULLY: Good boy, Alex, good boy.
MULDER: Chucks.
Mulder gets all bashful.
KRYCEK: Why are you saying “chucks”,
I’m the one who apologized.
MULDER: I just get so choked up and emotional
when you are yourself, the good and kind and sweet Alex Krycek.
KRYCEK: Don’t sugar-coat this, Mulder.
That pushes me straight to the other side of sweet.
MULDER: No! Don’t do that!
KRYCEK: Then stop being emotional!
MULDER: There! I stopped being emotional!
KRYCEK: Did not!
MULDER: Did too!
KRYCEK: Did not!
MULDER: Did too!
KRYCEK: Did not!
SCULLY: (to readers) He was that close to ending
this interview on a good note. That close.
MULDER: Did too!
KRYCEK: Did not!
MULDER: Did too!
KRYCEK: Did not!
REPORTER: I’m sure they don’t
have a clue as to what they’re arguing about right now. Anyway,
make sure to check back with “Fox & Rat” Virtual Series
next week, Monday, March 16th, for an exclusive interview with series
creators Cassie and Kristi. We’ll be talking about this very
long hiatus, the second FRVS movie, and the upcoming final season
of “Fox & Rat”.
