FADE IN:
INT. FBI HALLWAY - 3RD FLOOR - OUTSIDE OF SKINNER'S
OFFICE - 10:51 A.M.
February 27, 2004
Alex Krycek is standing just outside the waiting
area of Skinner's office, he's standing against the wall so that no
one inside can see him through the windows. He lifts his cell phone
to his ear and waits for the person at the other end to pick up. He
sneaks a peek at Kim through the window and watches her pick up the
phone on her desk. Her soft voice comes through on his end of the
phone.
KIM
Assistant Director Skinner's office.
KRYCEK
(disguises voice/deep, masculine)
Watch out for the Ice Queen.
KIM
Excuse me? Who is this?
KRYCEK
Agent Scully always gets her
revenge on women who get
involved with Walter.
Inside Skinner's waiting area, Kim checks
the caller ID, she sees that it is Alex Krycek.
KIM
Agent Krycek? Is that you?
KRYCEK
(surprised)
Oh no! Um... (disguises voice again)
This is a special informant, I've been
sent to protect you from the wrath of Red.
KIM
The wrath of Red...
KRYCEK
Ok fine! It is me.
KIM
What are you doing?
Krycek hangs up his cell phone and walks into
the room to talk to her.
KRYCEK
I just wanted to warn you against
Scully that's all. Do you know that
she and my girl- err... Marita used
to be best friends and then Marita
and Wally got involved together and
they haven't been close since?
KIM
You're not supposed to call Walter, "Wally".
KRYCEK
I know that, but that's not the point.
You have to be careful, she probably
hates you by now.
KIM
(worried)
Are you serious? Walter
hasn't said anything to me
about this.
KRYCEK
Would I lie to you?
Kim looks carefully at Krycek, but she
doesn't see anything to make her think he is lying to her.
KIM
Oh gosh... what am I
supposed to do?
KRYCEK
I don't know. If I were
you, I'd watch my back.
With that, Krycek exits the room and takes
the elevator down to the basement.
INT - DOGGETT/REYES OFFICE - FRIDAY - 11 A.M.
We hear loud techno music blaring in the office.
From the right side of the room, Monica and Mulder come into view,
they are dancing, seemingly choreographed moves. They are having a
great time. They pass Monica's desk and Mulder picks up a file and
they dance their way back to the other side of the room, in perfect
time with the music. They get to the filing cabinet and Mulder hands
the file to Monica, she files it away. They then hold hands and twirl
around, laughing. At least they are working somewhat.
SUDDENLY! Krycek slides into the office on his
knees, pretending to be playing air guitar. He proceeds to do a few
break dance moves there on the floor then he stands up and impresses
Mulder and Monica with a few slick disco dance moves. Monica and Mulder
are cheering him on.
Elsewhere in the FBI Cafeteria...
Scully and Doggett are in line getting their
lunches. One of the food service employees slops a pile of mashed
potatos on Doggett's plate, the employee snears at him, the Janitor
has told him all about how Doggett blames his problems on Monica -
the food service employee likes Monica so he's decided to be a little
rude to Doggett.
Doggett looks at the food service employee dead
panned, the mashed potato is not only on the plate but also on the
tray he is carrying.
SCULLY
... I can't believe Mon' and Mulder
are dancing to techno music in
the office... it gives me such a
headache. As much as Mulder's
yodeling music is annoying, it doesn't
give me a headache like techno...
Doggett isn't listening to her, instead
he is watching on horrified as the food service employee prepares
his turkey sandwich after having taken off his hair net, scratched
his head while wearing the protective latex gloves. The employee is
smirking as he doesn't change gloves and picks up turkey meat, lettuce,
tomato and cheese and completes the sandwich and places it on Doggett's
plate.
FOOD SERVICE EMPLOYEE
Enjoy your meal, Agent Doggett.
Doggett does not smile or respond to him.
Scully gets her salad from the food service employee that is helping
her and she thanks him. She and John head off in search of a table.
DOGGETT
(quiet/serious)
I don't think food service likes me...
SCULLY
(cheerful)
And why do you think that? (smiles)
Because he's jealous that you are
dining with the cutest agent in the Bureau?
Scully flashes him a very radiant and flirtatious
smile.
DOGGETT
He scratched his head and then
prepared my food. Why would he
do that if I were with the cutest-
He stops himself, realizing that Scully
was just flirting with him.
DOGGETT
Um... maybe from now on I'll
pack my own lunch and eat
in the office.
SCULLY
Well, that would be a good thing
if the food service bully is picking
on you, but then you'd have to eat
lunch to Mulder and Monica's music
selections and I'm not sure that would
be a good thing to do, of course it is
better than what the food bully did
to your meal...
She smiles at him again and then scans
the room. She sees Skinner, Kim, Brad and Spender sitting at a table
and of course there are two open spaces. Scully and Doggett approach
them.
SCULLY
Mind if we join you?
KIM
Not at all. (beat) Agent Mulder
isn't here today to liven up the place?
Scully and Doggett take their seats.
SCULLY
No. I think Agents Mulder, Krycek
and Reyes are starting some kind
of lunch hour dance group.
Skinner, Kim, and Brad laugh. Spender snears.
SPENDER
Like it isn't enough that they
have pogo stick night every
single day this week. Do you
know how horrible it is having
them live right above you in
a crappy apartment complex?
Consider yourselves lucky that
they don't come pester you at
three in the morning asking if
you want to help them set up
Slip'N'Slide in the hallway.
Skinner chuckles a bit at what Spender
said, Kim and Brad hold back their laughter, sensing that Spender
didn't have the most peaceful night of sleep last night.
Brad coughs to break the tension Spender contributed
to the lunch table.
BRAD
I highly doubt that Monica would
get involved with creating a lunch
time dance group at work, Dana.
DOGGETT
She's serious. They're down there
right now if you want to see
what they're up to with your own eyes.
BRAD
Sure. Well what kind of dancing
is Monica exhibiting? Exotic?
The table goes quiet. Brad didn't mean
for that question to come out - oh no! Is the world of "Fox & Rat"
getting to him?! Will Brad become some kind of comic monster because
the writers want to see him wear a Hawaiian grass skirt and hula dance?
We sure hope not. Why is Brad saying things like Monica doing exotic
dancing... at work? Doggett is smirking at Brad, humored to see him
slip up like that in front of fellow agents who typically only see
his serious side.
KIM
So is everyone comfortable with
being public about their inter-office
relationships?
She gets odd looks from everyone around
her, Spender rolls his eyes at her as if this is a ridiculous question.
SPENDER
A.D. Cassidy chewed me out
the other day for flirting with
her secretary in the lounge. She
said any agent who pursues a
relationship other than professional
in the Bureau is a disgrace and
should lose their title as Special Agent.
Can you believe the nerve of that wench?
SCULLY
Looks like somebody needs to get laid.
KIM
I'm just asking because A.D. Follmer
seems so comfortable commenting
on the possibility of Monica doing
exotic dancing... Dana and John
are always flirting... Mulder's public
announcements of affection for Agent
Krycek... Walter and I...
BRAD
John and Dana aren't
in a relationship.
SKINNER
And despite water fountain
rumors, Agents Mulder and
Krycek are straight.
KIM
(apologetic)
Oh! (to Dana and John) I didn't
mean to jump to conclusions...
it's just, well, ya know. You two
seem so comfortable together.
BRAD
(laughs)
Kim, remind me to tell you about "Nervous
Johnny" or "I-need-the-right-setting-Johnny",
or "I-haven't-been-with-anyone-in-over-ten-years-
and-I'm-scared-Johnny" someday.
Doggett glares at Brad, shut up. There's
an awkward silence. Skinner drinks milk and wipes away a milk mustache,
Doggett opens up a Hostess cupcake and eats it as his lunch, Scully
nervously picks at her salad. Brad and Kim look at everyone wondering
why it's suddenly awkward. Spender watches everyone and rolls his
eyes.
SPENDER
What are you guys doing this weekend?
DOGGETT
I'm gonna come in and see if there
are any cases to follow-up on.
SCULLY
Cleaning on Saturday and my sister
is coming over tonight.
BRAD
I don't know, I'll probably be with
Monica. We're thinking of
redecorating the apartment.
KIM
Walter and I haven't planned
anything past our jog in the park.
Doggett stands up.
DOGGETT
I'm gonna run to Subway to
get quality service. Anyone
want anything?
No one answers him.
DOGGETT
Ok then.
He picks up his tray and dumps its contents
in the garbage.
SCULLY
I should probably get going
too... get the boys and Monica
back to work...
Scully stands up and heads out of the cafeteria,
Kim follows her. They throw their garbage away and walk out into the
hallway.
KIM
(hesitant)
Dana, I need to talk to you
about something.
SCULLY
Yeah?
Scully stops walking in front of an elevator,
she presses the down button.
KIM
I want to be sure that you're
not uncomfortable with Walter
and I. I've heard that you get
bitter toward other women Walter
gets involved with.
Kim looks down, unable to look Scully in
the eye.
SCULLY
(surprised)
Wow. Um...
The elevator door opens and Deputy Director
Kersh and a dark haired woman known just as The Director exit, nodding
to Scully and Kim. They nod their heads at them to acknowledge them.
The elevator door shuts. Scully looks at Kim, her eyes are still planted
on the floor. Scully reaches out and touches her shoulder.
SCULLY
(soft)
Kim, I don't know what rumors
you've heard about me, but I'm
not bitter about you and Walter.
Kim looks up at her, relieved.
SCULLY
I'm happy for you two. I don't
think I've ever seen Walter as
happy as he is with you, and
believe me, I've known him for
quite a long time.
KIM
You mean that...?
Scully smiles and nods her head.
KIM
(laughing/embarrassed)
Gosh, I feel ridiculous now...
how embarrassing.
SCULLY
Don't worry about it.
Scully pushes the down button on the elevator
again.
Out of nowhere, Kim hugs Scully.
KIM
You know, I should have trusted
my instinct and kept my big
mouth shut, you're a great person.
SCULLY
Thank you.
KIM
Well, I'll see you later. Have
a nice weekend, Dana.
SCULLY
You too.
The elevator door opens and Monica steps
out.
SCULLY
Hey Mon', where ya goin'?
MONICA
Brad's office. I have to
ask him something.
Monica hurries off.
SCULLY
(yelling)
Don't come back with post-it
notes on your ass!
A few agents in the hallway pause and look
at her, that wasn't very professional. Oops, she said that really
loud.
SCULLY
(explaining to the agents)
She doesn't use fabric softner...
the static attracts post-its.
She steps into the elevator and it closes.

FADE IN:
INT. MANNER'S BAR - 9 P.M.
Mulder, Krycek, Monica and Brad are standing
around a billiards table. Brad and Krycek are playing against each
other. Krycek lines up a shot, it goes in. He smirks at Brad.
KRYCEK
Ok pretty boy, I'm on a roll, there's
no way you're gonna win now. I'm
sinkin' the eight ball.
Krycek examines the table, he's got the
perfect shot. The eight ball is sitting in the left side pocket. Brad
still has three more balls on the table, there's no way Krycek can
loose this.
KRYCEK
Eight ball, side pocket.
Krycek leans over the table, getting ready
to shoot. He pulls backward on his pool cue prepping his shot.
BRAD
There's always a chance
you will scratch-
Krycek nails the shot, having hit the cue
ball just right so it spun backward upon impact with the eight ball,
preventing the cue ball from falling into the side pocket as well,
thus preventing scratching which could have lost him the game. Krycek
wins!
MONICA
Alex, be glad Brad's having
an off night.
KRYCEK
Hey, I won fair and square.
Mulder leans over to whisper to Monica.
MULDER
He's not lying, usually he cheats.
BRAD
So... Alex, you up for another game?
Krycek is feeling pretty darn confident
of his billiard skills.
KRYCEK
No, mister Bradley, the question is...
are you up for another butt-whoopin'?
Krycek chalks the tip of his pool cue,
giving Brad a devious smile.
CUT TO:
INT. SCULLY/MARITA/MONICA'S APT. - LIVING ROOM
- 9:30 P.M.
Scully's sister, Melissa, is over and has brought
a massage table with her. Scully is lying on it, a white towel covering
the central part of her body. Melissa is giving her a massage. Relaxation
music is playing quietly on the stereo. Scully is slowly allowing
herself to relax, her eyes are closed.
SCULLY
Mmm... this feels so good, Missy.
It's been years since I've felt
this relaxed...
MELISSA
You're kidding me, you're relaxed now?
Scully mumbles out a 'yes'.
MELISSA
Dana, your muscles are still so tense.
Scully laughs softly.
SCULLY
Guess that says a lot
about my life, huh?
A silent beat.
MELISSA
What's stressing you out? Work?
Marita? Mom pestering you about
not being married yet...?
SCULLY
I'm fine...
Melissa doesn't say anything. She knows
that when Dana says "I'm fine", that there is something bothering
her. Not saying a word after she says this always guarantees that
Dana will open up and talk about what isn't fine.
Scully sighs.
SCULLY
Kim, Walter's new woman... she uh...
thought I was "bitter" toward her...
I didn't think I had come off that way
but obviously she thought it, so I must
have done something rude...
MELISSA
How do you feel about Walter
being with her?
SCULLY
I'm happy for him, he deserves
someone who he really wants,
that he's happy with...
MELISSA
I sense a "but"...
SCULLY
But... in a way it makes me feel
as if I'm not as desirable as I have
been, ya know? No one has asked
me out for a drink and wanted to see
me again. Robert did once, but that
was only to save me from having to be
around Marita after he broke up with her.
MELISSA
What happened with that one guy
you mentioned on the phone a
few months ago?
SCULLY
John?
MELISSA
Yeah, John... the way you talk about
him... sort of indicated that perhaps
something was happening between you two.
Scully doesn't say anything, lately she's
been feeling as if John isn't really interested in her as more than
a friend. If he wanted something more, wouldn't he take some kind
of step to advance their friendship into something more?
MELISSA
Dana...?
SCULLY
Hmm?
MELISSA
What about John?
SCULLY
I don't know... it's... complicated.
Scully has so much more to say, but doesn't
know where to begin. Melissa continues to massage her bare back with
massage oils.
SCULLY
(hesitant)
Do you believe it's possible to be
in love with someone when you're
nothing more than friends?
MELISSA
I love all my friends...
SCULLY
No, not that kind of love... the kind
of love that... is deep within you, where
the person touches your soul and
connects with you like no one before, but
doesn't want anything more than friendship.
Melissa stops massaging her.
MELISSA
Wow, Dana, and I thought this
John was just a crush. Are you
sure you love him like that?
She hands Dana a towel, Scully sits up,
covering her chest with the towel.
SCULLY
You don't think I should
say it like that?
MELISSA
No, I just wonder what this
guy has done to have this
effect on you.
Scully sighs.
SCULLY
So much... yet so little...
maybe that's why, there's been
no effort on either of our parts in
regard to how close we've become,
it just happened.
MELISSA
You're afraid that you've waited
too long to start something, and
if you did, it would be awkward
because you are such good friends?
Scully nods her head, part of her has begun
to think this way recently.
SCULLY
If only he'd give me just one
small sign that it's not too
late to be something more.
MELISSA
Why don't you ask him.
Melissa starts to pack away her massage
oils, she needs to hit the road before it gets too late.
SCULLY
I don't know. I like tradition.
It's not tradition for the girl
to ask a guy things like that.
MELISSA
How do you know that fate has
planned it out so you have to be
the one to ask him and not the
other way around?
SCULLY
That's silly, Missy. If it's fate's
plan to have us together, wouldn't
it happen no matter what?
MELISSA
Not necessarily. (beat) Do you
think Bill would like John?
SCULLY
Absolutely, I can actually
picture the two of them really
hitting it off.
MELISSA
Take that as a sign, Dana.
If you've found a guy that Bill
would like, don't let him slip away.
Scully stands up and wraps the towel around
her, she walks away from her sister and goes into her room to get
her pajamas on. Melissa is right, maybe she should ask John if he'd
like to start a relationship with her. Stop being so damn traditional
when it comes to relationships, Dana, that's what's holding you back.
She makes a promise to herself to ask him the next time she is alone
with him and the opportunity presents itself.
CUT TO:
INT. DOGGETT'S HOUSE - BEDROOM - 11 P.M.
Doggett lies in bed, awake, staring up at the
ceiling. He's been lying here for a little over an hour and a half.
He was so bored tonight that he actually decided it would be fun to
try to get a couple extra hours of sleep tonight. The moment his head
hit his pillow, his mind reflected back to the argument he had with
Monica last weekend. She is right, he is afraid to initiate a relationship
with Dana, that's why he had a lonely weekend planned out ahead of
him. He did nothing tonight, tomorrow he was going into work to followup
on cases, and Sunday he planned on cleaning his gun and watching the
"Smokey and The Bandit" movies. That's the shit that losers do on
weekends, not someone who wants to follow his heart and be with the
woman he loves.
Hold on.
The woman he loves?
Did he just think that? It must be a true thought
since it came to him in his inner dialogue. What the heck is he doing
avoiding interaction with her this weekend? Is he a fool? Hell yeah,
but there was too many other important things to do than pursue love,
romance and relationships. He has bills to pay, a dog to walk, his
son's case to solve, childlike agents to deal with, unresolved issues
with his parents to address one day, Monica would pick on him if he
were to suddenly be in a relationship with Dana.
If he did get involved with her, who's to say
that it would work? What if things were to go wrong and their friendship
would dissolve. Could he live with that? No, she is becoming too important
to him. Not becoming, she is important to him. He feels a stronger
connection between him and Dana that he doesn't feel with anyone else,
not even with Monica, his friend for over thirty years. He doesn't
feel he can talk to Monica about all the little secrets of his life,
but he feels if given the right moment with Dana that he'd be able
to tell her anything.
He wonders if she feels the same, maybe she
does. Over Christmas she was able to talk to him about her unresolved
issue with her father and how it makes her feel. God dammit! He had
handled that situation so well then, and now he feels he's taken a
few steps back. Why is he doing this to himself? He's afraid to fail
Dana. To fail their relationship if it should ever happen. He is afraid
of failure, but how can he have the chance to worry about failure
if he isn't willing to risk it in the first place? Isn't that failure
too? Failing to take the risk and put himself on the line for something
he strongly believes in. He can't do that anymore. Monica is right,
Dana makes him happy, he's preventing himself certain happiness by
not being with her. He makes a promise to himself to do something
about that as soon as possible.
He rolls onto his side and stares at his closed
closet door. Luke's ashes are hidden away in there. Waiting to be
released, waiting to be let go. He owes it to himself, to Monica,
to Barbara and to Luke to put the son-of-a-bitch away for life for
destroying an innocent life.
He closes his eyes and allows himself the peace
of falling asleep, setting aside his concerns for another day.
FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
EXT. WALKING PATH - PARK - 7 A.M.
Saturday, February 28, 2004
Skinner and Kim are on their weekly Saturday
jog in the park. They are both dressed in matching jogging suits,
white with black vertical stripes on the sides of the pants and sleeves
of their jackets. Kim is wearing light purple ear muffs. Snow is on
the ground. Skinner and Kim show no signs of exhaustion as they jog
by us.
INT. SCULLY/MARITA/MONICA'S APT. - LIVING ROOM
- 7 A.M.
Scully is sitting on the couch, she is still
in her dark red silk pajamas, the hem rests just above her knees.
Her Winnie The Pooh slippers are on her feet. She is well-rested and
ready for the day. She sips at a glass of orange juice as she watches
the morning news.
INT. DOGGETT/REYES OFFICE - 7 A.M.
Doggett sits at his desk, several different
x-files cases are scattered on his desk. Though it's Saturday, he
has worn his work suit and tie. The basement is extremely quiet, a
welcome change from the chaos caused by Mulder and Krycek during the
week.
INT. MULDER/KRYCEK'S APT - LIVING ROOM - 7 A.M.
The room is a disaster area. There are board
game pieces scattered all over the floor, plastic forks, dirty dishes,
soda cans, straws, shoe laces, a pogo stick and the cushions of the
couch are located at many various places in the room, including on
the very top of the bookshelf. The TV is on, set on the Cartoon Network.
Mulder, Krycek, Monica and Brad are sleeping
on the floor, in sleeping bags. Mulder is in an army camouflage bag,
Krycek is in a pink Care Bear bag and Monica and Brad are in the same
navy blue sleeping bag.
Monica twitches in her sleep and wakes up, her
head is resting on Brad's chest. She looks up at him and smiles, he's
so cute when he is unaware of the physical world.
Suddenly, in his sleep, Mulder turns and whacks
Krycek on his stomach. As a result, Krycek lets out a loud belch.
He does not wake up. Disgusted, Monica scrunches her nose. Well, it's
time to get up, she decides.
She quietly unzips hers and Brad's sleeping
back, making sure not to wake anyone.
Monica stands up and her eyes scan over the
room. What a mess. Being the kind guest that she is, she picks up
the couch cushions and places them back on the couch. Then she turns
off the TV, but that's all she does, the rest of the mess was created
by Mulder and Krycek. She walks into the room better known as The
Love Room, she shuts the door behind her.
A few beats after Monica leaves the room, one
of Krycek's eyes pop open. He shakes Mulder awake. Mulder lightly
tries to bat Krycek's hand away.
KRYCEK
Mulder... Mulder. Monica is
abandoning us here in the living room.
Mulder's eyes slowly open and he gives
a sloppy, tired grin to Krycek.
KRYCEK
Maybe she's gonna take a
bath... or shower...
Krycek stands up, pulling on Mulder's arm.
KRYCEK
(eager)
Come on!
Mulder stands up and Krycek lets go of
him and runs to The Love Room door as Mulder plops face first onto
the couch to continue his sleeping.
Meanwhile in the bathtub...
Monica is taking a warm bubble bath. A thoughtful
look crosses her face as she realizes she didn't ask Mulder if it
was all right for her to use his Lavender Spring Bubbles... oh well,
too late now. Monica shuts her eyes and does deep breathing relaxation
exercises. She does this every morning to get a feel on how her body
is, she typically can sense a problem if there is one. Her forehead
scrunches up, feeling that something is different. Hmm... the doctor
had told her last week that it was probably just a stomach ache with
an accompanying headache, but she senses that there is something else
going on with her.
The bathroom door flies open and Krycek enters.
He stands there, highly amused. Monica opens her eyes, having heard
him come in.
MONICA
What do you want?
KRYCEK
A bath.
Monica shrugs her shoulders.
MONICA
Ok, get in.
KRYCEK
(suspicious)
Ok... what's the catch? There
is no way in heck you'd let me
do this on any other day... but
hey, if you insist...
Krycek starts taking off his clothes, his
shirt, his sweatpants, he's about to take off his yellow smiley face
boxers, but:
MONICA
Whoa! Mister Happy! I'm not
naked under here, please keep
your shorts on.
Krycek gets embarrassed, but oh well. He
gets to take a morning bubble bath with a chick!
Hmm... Krycek gives us a pensive look as Monica
puts a handful of bubbles on his head.
CUT TO:
INT. IHOW (INTERNATIONAL HOUSE OF WAFFLES) -
8:30 A.M.
This is a place you'd expect to see more elderly
customers than anyone else, but that doesn't stop Kim and Skinner
from naming it their favorite place to have breakfast.
They are seated at a booth, looking out at the
parking lot.
SKINNER
Mm... these are the best
waffles in the world.
We see Skinner has a plate full of waffles
in front of him. He jams another forkfull into his mouth. Kim looks
up from cutting her waffles into small bitesize pieces.
KIM
You shouldn't eat so much
in one gulp, you don't want to choke.
Skinner gives her a goofy smile.
SKINNER
I've got nothing to be afraid of.
You're here to save me.
KIM
I may not do it right, I'm not
a doctor like Dana is.
Skinner wipes his mouth with a napkin and
takes a sip of his coffee.
SKINNER
See. I'm fine.
Kim places one of her neatly cut waffles
into her mouth and chews. She gives him a look that tells him to be
more careful.
SKINNER
I really think Rogain is working.
I swear I can feel more hair on the
top of my head. When it all finally
grows out, then you won't have
to worry about people thinking
you have a very intimate relationship
with your father.
Kim practically chokes on her food when
he says this, she had never heard this theory of his before.
KIM
Walter?!
SKINNER
What?
KIM
People do not think
that you are my father!
SKINNER
(matter of fact)
Actually, that old lady over
there told me that I had a very
beautiful daughter and if I was
interested she has a grandson
that is having troubles finding
a good woman to be with and
she suggested that I have my
daughter and her grandson meet.
(beat) She was talking about you.
KIM
Oh my gosh. Oh, I really
don't like that people think that.
Did you set her straight?
Skinner looks down at his waffles and picks
up another forkfull and eats it, ignoring her question.
KIM
Walter...?
Skinner keeps on chewing his waffles, the
more time that passes the less food is in his mouth, but he just keeps
on chewing.
SKINNER
(swallows hard)
No honey, I didn't have a
chance to tell her we are dating.
KIM
Why not? Are you worried that
people will think less of you if
you're romantically involved with
someone much younger than yourself?
SKINNER
No. I've always been with younger
women. You know, like Dana. It's
never bothered me before.
KIM
Is it because I'm not Dana?
SKINNER
Huh?
KIM
Come on Walter, do you
know how many people in
the Bureau ask me if she is
my sister?
SKINNER
I'm not sure I'm following.
KIM
Are you with me because
I look like her?
SKINNER
Look like who?
KIM
Dana Scully.
SKINNER
No.
KIM
Then why did I find the two
of you hungover sleeping on
the sofa sleeper in your office
back in September?
SKINNER
(lying)
We only watched a movie
the night before.
KIM
Then why were you wearing her
tight little tank top?
Skinner bites his lower lip, what can he
say to get out of this situation...?
SKINNER
Dana likes to play dress up.
Kim rolls her eyes, she saw the condition
his office was in when she got in the morning after Skinner and Scully's
drunken silliness and their night of fooling around. Nevermind when
she walked into the office, Scully had been lying on top of Skinner,
with her hand up his shirt and their legs were entwined in an awfully
erotic position.
SKINNER
I swear, we were just
playing dress up while
watching "Poltergeist".
KIM
Sure.
Kim stands up to go order another glass
of orange juice, leaving Walter alone at their table.
CUT TO:
INT. DOGGETT'S HOUSE - 10 A.M.
The sunlight shines into the living room through
the windows. Buddy is curled up on the couch and he's relaxing. Doggett
is not back from the office yet.
The phone rings and Buddy's head perks up, the
answering maching picks up after three rings.
DOGGETT
(answering machine)
This is John Doggett, leave a message.
SCULLY
Hi John, it's me. I guess
you're out doing whatever
it is you do on Saturday...
Upon hearing Scully's voice, Buddy runs
to the table that holds the answering machine. He barks happily and
wags his tail.
SCULLY
Anyway, if you get home and feel
up to doing something, give me a
call or just come on over. Marita and
Mon' are out for the day.
Scully hangs up, Buddy barks again.
CUT TO:
INT. SCULLY/MARITA/MONICA'S APT. - DINING AREA
- 10 A.M.
Scully sets the cordless phone down on the dining
table. She looks around the apartment. What... to... do? Marita is
out shopping all day and Monica is with Brad.
She's all dressed up for the day and has nothing
to do. Well, it is getting close to being spring... maybe she should
get ahead on spring cleaning like she said she was going to do yesterday.
She walks to the window and opens it, letting in the cold late February
air from outside. She smiles to herself, the fresh, cool air will
make it seem more spring-like inside.
Scully walks into the living room and wipes
her finger across the coffee table. Ew! Lots of dust. She heads over
to the supply closet and takes out lemon Pledge and a dusting rag.
CUT TO:
INT. DOGGETT/REYES OFFICE - 11 A.M.
Doggett is still working. We see a Subway turkey
sandwich in one of his hands. Apparently he took a break to go get
lunch.
As we move around him, we see he is looking
at some old files of Krycek's that have been ignored.
There's a knock on the office door. Doggett
looks up, it's Kersh. Doggett sets down his sandwich.
Kersh is wearing casual clothing, jeans and
polo shirt (tucked in).
KERSH
(friendlier than usual)
Agent Doggett? What are you doing
down here on such a beautiful day?
You do know this division doesn't
require its agents to work 24/7, right?
DOGGETT
Just going through some of Agent
Krycek's old files, sir. I don't think
he checked into most of these.
KERSH
Most cases given to him are works
of fiction. You didn't actually think
we'd have both Agent Mulder and
Krycek working together, did you?
DOGGETT
They're good agents when they have to be.
KERSH
They would end up killing each
other, the Director doesn't want
to risk that possibility.
There is a curious silence, Kersh notions
his head toward the door.
KERSH
Get outta here, John. You
don't know what you're
missing out there.
Kersh leaves.
Kersh's last line lingers in the air around
Doggett... "You don't know what you're missing out there." He's sure
Kersh was talking about the nice weather they are having today, but
Doggett thinks that it means there is someone out there who could
enrich his life so much more than what it already is. Dana Scully.
Doggett remains seated for a second or two,
Kersh is right, it's a weekend and there's a NASCAR race on that he'd
like to watch, maybe he could get Scully to watch it with him. He
doubts she'd really want to. She probably already had plans for the
rest of the day. He'll just go home and enjoy the rest of the afternoon
alone.
Doggett shuts down his computer, grabs his coat
and leaves, locking the office door behind him.
CUT TO:
INT. MULDER/KRYCEK'S APT. - NOON
Mulder is finally awake for the day, he turns
the ringer on the phone back on as he waves good morning to his pet
fish. He stops and listens for a moment, he hears nothing.
MULDER
Krycek? (listens) Monica?
(listens) Bradley?
No one answers him. He makes his way to
the kitchen entry to see if maybe they got up and fell back asleep
in the kitchen. No one is there.
MULDER
Guys... if you're trying to scare me-
The phone rings, scaring Mulder to death.
He yelps.
MULDER
- it isn't working!
Mulder shudders as he looks at the phone
and picks it up.
MULDER
Hello...?
SCULLY
(muffled)
Oh good, you're finally up.
I was wondering if you'd like
to come over this afternoon-
MULDER
- I'd love to!
SCULLY
Great! I've been cleaning all
morning and I really need
people to- (beat) Mulder? Can
you hold on? Someone else
is on the other line...
MULDER
Sure.
Scully switches her phone over and Mulder
makes his way to the bathroom in The Love Room, passing by the bed,
Brad is now sleeping on it. He goes inside the bathroom and doesn't
notice that Monica and Krycek have fallen asleep in a lukewarm bubblebath
. He goes close to the mirror and examines his teeth. He sees Monica
and Krycek through the mirror reflection and giggles to himself. They
don't wake up. He tippy-toes into the living room and grabs a camera
and returns to the bathroom and snaps a picture of them.
SCULLY
(on phone)
Mulder? I've got to go now,
can I expect you in an hour or so?
MULDER
Yep. I just gotta drop off a
roll of film to get developed.
He hangs up the phone and goes to get dressed.
Mulder lets Monica and Krycek continue to sleep
in the water, they'll learn a lesson about falling asleep in a bathtub
when they wake up and their skin hurts because it has pruned.
CUT TO:
INT. SKINNER'S HOUSE - KITCHEN - 12:30 P.M.
Skinner and Kim are preparing spaghetti. They
are both chopping up vegetables and wearing aprons: "Best Darn Cook
in D.C." and "Kiss The Cook". They are listening to Johann Strauss'
"The Blue Danube Waltz", their chopping movements mimic the rhythm
of the waltz.
KIM
I think we should invite
everyone over for dinner.
SKINNER
Sounds like a good idea to me.
On a quite upbeat moment in the music,
they quickly kiss on the lips and continue to chop up vegetables.
SKINNER
I'll go call Dana, she's good
at coordinating everyone into
being at a certain places at
a certain time.
KIM
Ok, whatever you think will
work. (beat) If you want me
to call everyone, I can. I think
I'm pretty capable of coordinating
our friends.
SKINNER
That's ok, Dana likes to do
this stuff, it makes her feel
like she's got this big family
to take care of.
Skinner picks up his phone and calls Scully's
cell phone.
SCULLY
Hello.
SKINNER
Hi Dana, it's Walter.
SCULLY
Hey, how are you doing?
SKINNER
Just fine, Kim and I were
wondering if you could
call everyone up and invite
them to dinner at my place
tonight.
SCULLY
What? You want me to call
people to invite them to your home?
SKINNER
Yeah.
SCULLY
That's silly. It's your home.
SKINNER
I know, but I know how much
you love to coordinate family-like
events-
SCULLY
- What's the event?
SKINNER
There really isn't one. Kim
and I are making spaghetti dinner.
SCULLY
Your mother's recipe?
SKINNER
Your favorite.
SCULLY
Well, I won't call everyone
for you, but you can count
on me to be there. What time?
SKINNER
Oh I don't know... six maybe.
SCULLY
Six it is. Now, Walter,
make sure you call everyone
you want to invite over, ok?
SKINNER
All right, thanks Turtle.
SCULLY
You're welcome.
Skinner happily hangs up his phone and
returns to the kitchen.
KIM
Why'd you call her turtle?
SKINNER
Oh it's just a nickname
I gave her when we were a couple.
Kim raises an eyebrow, wondering why he's
calling her "Turtle" again.
SKINNER
You see... Dana always looks
really sexy in green and she
liked to use lime green condoms
so... since people think of turtles
as being green, I called her that.
I think it's really cute.
KIM
(looks down/continues cutting)
Oh.
SKINNER
She had this lime green
bikini that just compliments
her figure so well. She sure
knows how to pick out the right
clothing to look sexy. Guess that
comes with being an ex-Vegas
stripper. (beat/smiles) She's
quite a good dancer too.
KIM
(angered)
Walter? Do you really want
to be with me or do you
want to be with her?
SKINNER
Huh?
Kim rolls her eyes, he's playing stupid
again. Ever since Krycek told her that Scully gets bitter toward other
women Walter is with, she's been doubting if she should be with him.
She likes him a lot, maybe even has fallen in love with him since
they first hooked up in Paris last summer, but all his Dana Scully
talk today is getting on her nerves. She feels like he is comparing
her to Scully - who obviously still has quite a hold on Walter's mind.
She doesn't want to talk about this now, not
anymore. He'll only find more ways to compliment Scully, not realizing
that it hurts her feelings.
KIM
Can you stir the sauce as
I put these vegetables in?
Skinner nods his head, he senses that she
is upset, but isn't exactly sure why. He does as she asks and stirs
the tomato and meat sauce as Kim adds in their chopped vegetables.
He watches the expression on her face, she is sad and on the verge
of tears.
SKINNER
Kim?
She doesn't respond, afraid that if she
does she'll cry.
SKINNER
I love you.
He bends over and kisses the top of her
forehead, she chokes back a cry and turns around to rince off the
cutting board.
KIM
Why don't you go find some
more chairs to place around
the table so everyone has a
place to sit when they come over.
Skinner nods his head and disappears into
the basement in search of chairs.
CUT TO:
INT. DOGGETT'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - 12:30 P.M.
The door to the house opens and Doggett enters,
Buddy ahead of him, attached to a leash. He got home about a half
hour ago and decided he had better take Buddy for a walk and enjoy
the wonderful outside weather. Doggett is out of his work suit and
is wearing jeans and a white t-shirt - it's that nice outside.
He shuts the door behind him and lets Buddy
off his leash. Doggett walks into his kitchen and gets a glass out
of his cupboard and fills it with water. He leans on his counter and
notices that a red light is blinking on his answering machine. He
walks over to it and hits the play button.
SCULLY
(on machine)
Hi John, it's me. I guess
you're out doing whatever
it is you do on Saturday...
Anyway, if you get home
and feel up to doing something,
give me a call or just come on
over. Marita and Mon' are out for the day.
The message ends and Doggett shrugs his
shoulders, guess Scully didn't have any plans made for the afternoon.
He walks back into the living room and grabs his keys from the coffee
table and heads out the door. Buddy watches him from the couch, after
the front door is shut, he lets out a happy bark. He's glad his master
is going to go see a friend.
CUT TO:
INT. SHOPPING MALL - 12:40 P.M.
Marita is wandering about in the mall hallway,
carrying shopping bags in both her hands. She is happy and is not
bothered by anything or anyone. She's been feeling so good lately,
due to talking with Doctor Peterson, so she decided to do something
fun for herself today and that was shopping.
She passes a photography store and sees a little
boy being posed for a picture, he is crying. Marita enters the story
and sits down so she is not in the way, but also so she can see this
child. Marita waves at the kid and the kid gives her an odd look and
then continues to give the photographer a hard time by not cooperating.
The photographer is medium height and has long
brown curly hair.
Marita crosses her eyes and sticks out her tongue,
the little boy looks at her and laughs. The photographer looks relieved
that the child is starting to lighten up. Marita sets her shopping
bags down next to her and puts her index fingers in the sides of her
mouth and pulls outward, further making herself look ridiculous. The
little boy laughs more and smiles. The photographer looks back at
her and sees what she is doing.
PHOTOGRAPHER
Ma'am? Could I ask you
to come stand behind me
and do that?
MARITA
(surprised)
Sure!
PHOTOGRAPHER
Thank you.
Marita stands behind the photographer and
makes her funny face again, the little boy looks in the direction
of the camera and the photographer takes the picture. The photographer
turns to talk to Marita.
PHOTOGRAPHER
You sure have a way with
children. Have you ever thought
of working at a place like this?
MARITA
No, I haven't.
PHOTOGRAPHER
You really have a knack for
this I think. Would you like
to fill out an application?
MARITA
All right. Though I can't work
during weekdays, I have a
full-time job with the United Nations.
Marita follows the photographer to the
store counter and is handed an employment application.
PHOTOGRAPHER
Just fill that out and bring it back.
You'll want to give it to our store
manager, Nancy. Tell her I gave
you the application, my name is
Samantha.
MARITA
I'm Marita. It's nice to meet you.
The two women shake hands.
SAMANTHA
It's nice to meet you too.
Have we ever met before?
You seem really familiar to me.
MARITA
I don't think so. I do have
a twin sister that lives on
the streets.
SAMANTHA
Well, I don't know her, that's
for sure. Must be some kind
of deja vu.
MARITA
Maybe. I'll go fill this out
and return it later this afternoon.
Marita leaves the photography store, glad
that she took a moment out of her day to help someone.
CUT TO:
INT. SCULY/MARITA/MONICA'S APT. - LIVING ROOM
- 1 P.M.
Doggett is seated on the edge of the couch,
fiddling with a pawn on a chess board that Scully found hidden in
a closet and decided to put out to display. Scully isn't in the room
right now.
Even though Mulder had also been invited over
by Scully earlier in the day, he has yet to show.
Scully comes shuffling into the living room
from the kitchen. She is carrying a can of Coca Cola, she hands it
to John.
For the first time since he arrived, he takes
notice of what she is wearing. He eyes her up and down... nicely fitted
jeans, white t-shirt and... his eyes rest on her feet. Winnie The
Pooh slippers. An amused smile forms on his face.
DOGGETT
Have I told you that you
look ridiculous, Dana?
Scully plops down on the floor, across
the coffee table from him, she gives him a cute look.
SCULLY
(pretending to be hurt)
What do you mean?
Doggett smiles and nods his head toward
her slippers.
DOGGETT
Winnie The Pooh?
SCULLY
What about Pooh-Boo?
Don't you ever let your
inner child shine through?
Doggett stands up and goes over to her,
he sits down next to her. He keeps a mischevious look on his face,
and he does not allow his eyes to break contact with hers. As a result,
she is uneasy.
DOGGETT
(pondering)
Inner child...?
He touches one of her slippers and lightly
tugs at it, attempting to remove it from her foot.
SCULLY
(surprised by his flirtation)
John! Don't!
Doggett gives her a playful smirk as he
pulls at the slipper again. He holds onto her leg, to prevent her
from crawling away from him. She giggles as she lightly kicks at him,
trying to free herself from his grasp. Before they know it, they are
both laughing hysterically over John trying to steal her slipper.
Scully flips onto her stomach and tries to crawl
away from him, he keeps hold of her slipper and it comes off.
Having succeeded in taking her slipper, Doggett
stands up and cheers his victory.
Scully remains on the floor, composing herself
like an adult. She looks up at John and pouts her lips and gives him
her best "sad puppy dog eyes". She gets up off the ground and rubs
her hands over her shirt to straighten it out. She places her hands
on her hips and taps her other Pooh Bear slippered foot on the ground.
SCULLY
(scolding/teasing)
John Jay Doggett. What in
the world are you doing?
Doggett gives her an innocent look.
DOGGETT
Letting my inner child shine brightly.
Scully cautiously yet casually approaches
him, a twinkle in her eye. Doggett can see right through her flirtatious
body language and knows that she's going to make a move for her slipper.
DOGGETT
Oh... it's not that easy, Dana.
With that, he lifts the slipper high above
his head, where she can't reach it.
Not liking what he has done, Scully raises an
eyebrow and gets a serious expression on her face.
SCULLY
(serious)
Now John, I don't want to
have to climb you to get that-
Doggett can't help but smile at that mental
picture. Her climbing him for a slipper would be funny.
DOGGETT
(teasing)
- Yeah, but would you really do that?
He takes a step back, daring her to do
so.
SCULLY
(flirty)
Don't tempt me...
Doggett takes another step backward. He
raises an eyebrow at her, is she really going to climb on him to get
her slipper back?
DOGGETT
Betcha can't get it away from me.
Scully takes a step toward him and jumps
up, her arms stretched up, trying to grab her Winnie The Pooh slipper.
Alas, she is too short.
SCULLY
("mad"/laughing)
I'm gonna get you!
She jumps onto the couch and tries to grab
her slipper, but before she has a chance, Doggett runs across the
room, still keeping the slipper in his grasp, holding it high above
his head.
Ready for some silliness, which doesn't come
often with Doggett, Scully laughs and jumps off the couch, a cushion
falls to the floor behind her.
Doggett starts to run in circles around the
living room. Scully is following close behind him. They are laughing
hysterically at their immature behaviour.
SCULLY
Give me back my Pooh-Boo!
Doggett attempts to hurdle over the couch,
but he slips and falls. Before he knows what has happened, Scully
has positioned herself on top of him, pinning his arms on the floor.
They are both out of breath.
Realizing he has been beat, Doggett lifts his
head off the floor to speak to her.
DOGGETT
(calm)
Hey now, this isn't fair now, is it?
SCULLY
Well, considering how long you
ran around with my slipper over
your head, I'd have to say this is
more than fair. (beat) Now, let go
of my Pooh-Boo!
With a twitch of his wrist, the Winnie
The Pooh slipper flies across the living room.
Determined to get her slipper back, Scully starts
to crawl off of Doggett, but like a skilled Marine, Doggett quickly
flips her onto her back with a soft thud. He raises her arms above
her head, pinning her to the floor. She squeals with delight, this
is just too darn funny.
She squirms, putting up a fight, but he's too
strong for her to escape, or does she even want to...
DOGGETT
(smiling)
It's not that easy...
SCULLY
(determined)
Get off me.
Doggett laughs at her softly and lowers
his head. Scully has stopped her squirming and their laughing has
stopped. Doggett sees that she is breathing hard, catching her breath.
He lifts his head to look at her, he takes notice
that her squirming has caused her t-shirt to creep up her stomach,
exposing her bare skin. Inspired by this, he looks into the depths
of her eyes.
DOGGETT
(whispers)
You're not ticklish, are you?
Doggett removes his grip from her arms
and holds her hands above her head with only one hand. Scully's eyes
are wide, he can't be serious about wanting to tickle her.
He places his right hand on her bare waist and
gently touches her, his hand moves upward until his thumb finds the
bottom of her rib cage. She lets out a soft giggle and shuts her eyes,
enjoying the sensation of his touch on her skin. Doggett looks at
her face and knows what his touch must be doing to her, he looks back
down at his hand, he slowly moves it lower, back toward her belly
button. This makes Scully giggle again. She opens her eyes and looks
at him.
SCULLY
(whisper)
John...
DOGGETT
Shh...
He removes his grip on her wrists and places
his finger on her mouth, quieting her. She closes her eyes as his
finger caresses the side of her face and neck, he inches his face
closer to hers. He wants to kiss her, he closes his eyes and lowers
his lips closer to hers... both await the inevitable... the room has
gone silent, capturing this moment in time...
SUDDENLY! There are three loud, obnoxious knoks
on the apartment door. This snaps them out of the spell they had on
each other.
Doggett pulls away from Scully, he runs his
hand through his hair. Scully sits up and places a few loose strands
of hair behind her ears. They are disappointed that someone interrupted
them.
SCULLY
(quiet)
That must be Mulder...
They both stand up, straightening their
clothing.
DOGGETT
Must be...
Scully goes across the room and picks up
her Winnie The Pooh slipper that John threw. She turns around and
goes to answer the door. She turns her head to look at Doggett, she
waves the slipper in the air, sticking out her tongue. She smiles
at him, letting him know that she won their little 'battle'. She opens
the apartment door and Mulder comes in.
Doggett watches Scully, smiling. She may have
won their battle of the Pooh-Boo slippers, but more importantly, he
is smiling at the thought of what had almost happened between the
two of them. Finally he had the guts to progress their relationship
in some way. Funny how easily and naturally they work together in
that way.
Feeling him watching her, Scully glances at
Doggett, her eyes meet with his. They share a knowing smile, telling
us that she is thinking the same thing he is.
MULDER
So Cue Ball called me earlier
and he's inviting us all over to
have din-din with him and Kim
tonight. I can't wait to go, I just
love his house. I think it would be
a super place to host a Super
Buddies Olympics. You know
the summer Olympics are happening
this year. (beat) Oh! Alex and Monica
are gonna be all pruned and regret it...
Mulder pulls out the photo he took of Monica
and Krycek sleeping in the bathtub.
Scully and Doggett are not really paying any
attention to him, each is wondering when the next opportunity will
present itself for them, so they can take another step in their relationship.
They smile at each other, knowing that today is only the beginning
of something bigger and better.
THE END.
