Lifestyle: Marita Covarrubias was born in Somerset County, England to wealthy parents, Joseph and Lynn, and has a twin sister named Maria. All her life, Marita has grown up with money and rich luxuries. Some may even call her spoiled and say that she has been handed everything she ever wanted.

At the age of four, Marita and her father and twin sister moved to St. Petersberg, Russia after institutionalizing Lynn Covarrubias, who had been living with mental illness for many years. Life in Russia was hard for Marita and her twin sister. Making friends was difficult because of the language barrier, so Marita told her father she wanted to try figure skating so she could spend her time on the ice. Her father got her into the Central Red Army Club and in 1975 she started training with Alex Krycek, who didn't know English and would only speak to her in Russian. Marita learned quickly and was soon able to communicate with him.

Marita and Alex became good friends in Russia and she soon taught him English. The two had a lot in common, both never really close with their families. Alex had his own family problems, while Marita was dealing with her fathers work with the shadowy secret government known as The Syndicate.

In 1977, Marita moved to Lake Placid, New York. The change was more than welcome. Her friend from Russia, Alex Krycek, moved to the United States as well. While in Lake Placid, Marita became friends with Dana Scully, who had to move around often because of her fathers role with the U.S. Navy. Marita would live in Lake Placid through her high school years.

In high school, Marita recieved a lot of attention because she was born in England, lived in Russia, and was different from any of the other girls in the school. She became popular as a cheerleader, but always living in the shadow of Dana Scully who was head cheerleader. Marita began to get a giant ego from the popularity she had and the amount of money her father gave her. Though she started dating Alex in 1984, she began pretending to hate him, despite his public expressions of love to her. Krycek was an outcast and was considered very unpopular to be around.

In 1988, Marita's father paid good money to send her to Harvard Law School, where she would graduate from in 1992 with high honors. She never really knew what to do with her life and being a lawyer just didn't seem to suit her. Marita expressed her bordom with law to her father so he got her a job with the United Nations as the Special Representative to the Secretary General. Marita accepted the position, but still longed for a more exciting life.

Later in 1992, Marita met up once again with Alex Krycek. This time, she didn't tell him she hated him, nor did she shoo him away as an annoyance. Something had changed in Alex that attracked Marita to him. He was more mysterious, hiding something from the world. He opened up to Marita and told her what he was doing as his current occupation - an assassin for The Syndicate, the same group Marita's father worked for. Alex pulled some strings to get her involved with The Syndicate, despite her father's wishes.

For Marita, life with The Syndicate was the excitement she was looking for. Being in the know of things going on in this world that others are never supposed to know was thrilling for her. But the thrill didn't last long as she started to see the true conspiracies within the group, and even learn of what her father did. She started to doubt the loyalty of her family and even started thinking that maybe this group was behind her mother's mental illness. Even if she wanted to get out of The Syndicate, it was impossible. The stress of working for the Syndicate brought her closer to Alex Krycek.

For many years Marita would sit in on Syndiate meetings, hearing their plans, knowing things about people close to her that they did not know. She learned who she could trust and who she could not. The Cigarette-Smoking Man frightened her because she could sense there was a selfish side to him that the others may not know. In 2000 when the group needed Dana Scully back on board The Project as a scientist and a doctor, Marita had her own beliefs that the Cigarette-Smoking Man was behind it for his own selfish reasons. For years, Marita had seen two sides of the Syndicate and Dana Scully was involved with the group two years before she joined. She had her doubts that Scully was honest and that she may even be working both sides.

Living life as a lie and distrusting everyone was hard for Marita and she fell into an affair with Walter Skinner, who at the time was engaged to Dana Scully. The affair would end in 2003. During this time Marita began to show signs of being crazy, and always by her side was Alex Krycek, despite how she always claimed to never be with him. Her insane behavior confused many people.

It was later discovered that the Cigarette-Smoking Man found out she was working behind his back with John Montgomery to find a way to administer a vaccine against the alien virus. The Smoking Man knew that Marita and Montgomery were going to administer the vaccine without giving it to him, if they ever found a cure. Marita was taken in 2002 and had her memory erased of what she had been doing with Montgomery. Not only was her memory taken from her, but the Smoking Man had doctors mess around in her head, causing her to behave in an insane manner. Marita stats to seek help for her insane behavior and shows quick improvements.

In 2004 Marita is approached by Knowle Rohrer, an agent working for the Department of Defense. Much to her surprise he knows that Monica Reyes and Dana Scully are not dead, but are being held against their will at the Strughold Research Facility in New York. The two become involved in an affair to trade information since Knowle was banned from ever going near the Facility again. Marita is able to help him get information that he can use as a way to figure out how to get Monica and Scully out. The affair ends quickly, both realizing that an affair is wrong since they are both involved with other people.

On a whim in May 2005, Alex Krycek and Marita declare themselves "married by the heart", there are no legal documents, just what they feel for each other.
